The Strengths of MIYAJI ENGINEERING GROUP, INC.

Reliable technical strengths backed by our experience with numerous projects

01

MEG has always been at the forefront of the most difficult projects in history, and it has a long track record of successfully taking on challenges. Our advanced technical capabilities were recognized during the construction of the steel framework of the Tokyo Tower. We also took part in the construction of the Metropolitan Expressway in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics, a symbol of Japan's post-war recovery. We brought together the expertise and experience of engineers and operators to create pioneering technologies that were used to successfully complete the Edobashi Junction, which connects the traffic hubs of Nihonbashi and Edobashi and which was considered the most difficult section of the Metropolitan Expressway construction project. We later went on to build the Kanmon Bridge (Japan's first straight-spanning bridge), the Ohnaruto Bridge, many Honshu-Shikoku Bridges such as the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge (then the world's longest suspension bridge) and the Tatara Bridge (Japan's longest cable-stayed bridge), the Hiroshima Airport Bridge (Japan's largest arch bridge), the Yokohama Bay Bridge and Rainbow Bridge (which became icons of the Tokyo metropolitan area), and the Tokyo Gate Bridge (affectionately known as the "Dinosaur Bridge"). In recent years, MEG has led overall construction as the representative company in JVs to successfully complete projects such as the Ariake Chikugo River Bridge and the Kanae Bridge (Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge). The reliable technical strengths that have made these projects realities are MEG's greatest strength.

Human resources that we can invest in large-scale projects

02

Successfully carrying out large-scale projects requires experts in various fields, such as sales, design, manufacturing, construction planning, and site construction. It also requires project managers in the JV's representative company that can manage the entire project. MEG has served as the JV representative for numerous large-scale projects, developing and nurturing many experts and project managers in the process. Because of this, MEG has a great deal of human capital that it can invest in new large-scale projects.

Industry-leading design and construction planning capabilities and technical development strengths

03

Large-scale renovation construction projects require the ability to identify problems with multiple existing bridges at the same time, to formulate countermeasures, to perform design work based on these proposed countermeasures, and to create concrete construction plans which offer greater construction efficiency while ensuring safety and minimizing the impact on third parties. Advanced technical capabilities and experience are essential to achieving this. There are no consulting companies or general contractors with these kinds of design response capabilities for steel bridge projects, and even among steel bridge fabricators, there are less than 10 who fit this bill. Two of those handful of skilled and capable companies are MEG business subsidiaries: MIYAJI ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (MEC) and MM BRIDGE CO., LTD. (MMB) MEG has some of the industry's top technical development capabilities in terms of software and new products, as well.

The power provided by having some of the largest seaside works in Japan

04

The Chiba Works of MIYAJI ENGINEERING GROUP, INC. (MEC) is a bridge manufacturing works that is roughly 1 kilometer long and roughly 230 meters wide, covering an area four times that of the Tokyo Dome. It has large block processing equipment and a pier for direct water transport for working on long-span bridges. This works boasts one of the highest production capacities in the industry.

Strategic and special equipment holdings for handling any kind of construction

05

The most common type of bridge erection construction work is the crane bent erection method. Segmented blocks are received by a bent (a temporary cradle) and successively erected. For locations that are difficult to shut down for long periods of time, such as when erecting bridges over roads or rail lines, special erection methods such as the launching method must be used. This requires a great deal of special erection equipment along with the erection planning capabilities and worksite management capabilities needed to use them. MEG has worked on many difficult special erection construction projects, so it has an extensive track record of developing the special equipment that is necessary. This includes high speed launching equipment for rapidly erecting bridges over railroads and large unit jacks for erecting multiple large blocks at once. When it comes to special erection, we have some of the finest technical capabilities in the industry. Furthermore, expanding large-scale renovation construction work and large-scale construction work, which are highly technically challenging, an extensive pool of special equipment to be on-hand at all times. That's why MEG has four equipment centers in Japan, where it keeps and updates its extensive strategic and special equipment. MEG also has a long track record of using its rich array of strategic equipment to perform emergency recovery work, rapidly restoring social infrastructure damaged by disasters.

Business partners with extensive experience and advanced technical capabilities

06

Challenging bridge erection projects require more than just special equipment, erection planning abilities, and site management capabilities. They also require business partners with extensive experience and advanced technical capabilities. MEG has an extensive track record of success with high difficulty construction projects, beginning with the Tokyo Tower and Edobashi Junction, followed by Honshu-Shikoku Bridges, such as the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, and, more recently, the Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge. These projects would not have been possible without the skilled and exceptional business partners that collaborated on the projects. MEG will continue to place great value on its relationships with its business partners, growing and developing together.

Resources and experience that have helped us overcome crises that extend beyond management issues

07

MEG has a history that extends over a century, beginning with its predecessor, MIYAJI IRON WORKS CO., LTD. These include major crises that go beyond simple management issues. Technically challenging work also carries a risk of major accidents that could have an impact on society. We've had to make some hard decisions to get through these trying circumstances, but we've been able to do so thanks to the solid support offered by our stakeholders, such as our business partners, and thanks to our own equity capital. MEG has many business partners and large plants and facilities. Through our past experience, we've learned that to protect our company and our stakeholders, it's important that we have equity capital that we can utilize in the event of an emergency.
