Industry-leading design and construction planning capabilities and technical development strengths
03
Large-scale renovation construction projects require the ability to identify problems with multiple existing bridges at the same time, to formulate countermeasures, to perform design work based on these proposed countermeasures, and to create concrete construction plans which offer greater construction efficiency while ensuring safety and minimizing the impact on third parties. Advanced technical capabilities and experience are essential to achieving this. There are no consulting companies or general contractors with these kinds of design response capabilities for steel bridge projects, and even among steel bridge fabricators, there are less than 10 who fit this bill. Two of those handful of skilled and capable companies are MEG business subsidiaries: MIYAJI ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (MEC) and MM BRIDGE CO., LTD. (MMB) MEG has some of the industry's top technical development capabilities in terms of software and new products, as well.
1 What is large-scale renovation construction?
• Large-scale renovation consists of using the latest technologies to repair, reinforce, or replace structures such as bridges and tunnels, restoring their performance and functions to what they were when the structures were first built (or improving them even further). This ensures that expressways will remain sound and in good condition for years to come. MEG has worked onsite in the renovation of the Metropolitan Expressway Co., Ltd.'s Route 1 Haneda Line (Higashi Shinagawa/Samezu), West Nippon Expressway Company Limited's Suita Junction-Ikeda Interchange bridge renovation project and Sasebo Viaduct widening project, Hanshin Expressway Company Limited's Kire-Uriwari Bridge large-scale renovation project, and more. Furthermore, we also have extensive experience with construction projects for which we have obtained preferential negotiation rights through technical proposals and price negotiations(*) and for which we are performing detailed design.
(*) The technical proposal and price negotiation process is a bidding system that was adopted in order to apply advanced technical strengths to projects. The party placing the order selects who gets preferential negotiation rights based on advanced technical proposals. They then conclude outsourcing agreements regarding designs with the preferential negotiation rights holder and detailed design is performed. Based on the results of this detailed design process, they then engage in discussions aimed at concluding a construction contract.
