[Comment from Mr. Aota]

The Company went through the painful experience of structural reform which resulted in a loss of a third of the workforce following the oil crisis and has a track record of conducting management with keen insight by our predecessors, including the establishment of the industry’s first holding company. I, too, have made difficult decisions such as closing the 60-year-old Matsumoto Works amid a more than 50% decrease in orders following massive cuts in public-works spending, the merger of MIYAJI IRON WORKS CO., LTD. and MIYAJI CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING CO., LTD., and the acquisition of shares of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Bridge & Steel Structures Engineering Co., Ltd.
(currently MMB). In an unclear and uncertain business environment due to COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, I will thoroughly ensure compliance and safety while valuing the spirit of “walking together and growing together” with MIYAJI ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (MEC) and MMB, which are major business subsidiaries, and many partner companies. With this spirit, I will make Group-wide efforts to achieve the medium-term business plan and solidify a firm position in the industry with pride and passion toward contributing to the safety and security of people, and meet the expectations of our shareholders and many stakeholders.
